AI in the Department of Transport: a People-Centric Approach

The judges want to commend the Department of Transport for a well-executed Co-Pilot initiative with a clear strategy, strong change management skills, and alignment to organisational objectives within the Irish Civil Service. The project supported the wider public sector AI strategy, enabling better public services through psychological safety, engagement, and learning. Implementation demonstrated excellent collaboration internally and externally, including IPA training and shared learning across departments. Following established change management practices, HR facilitated mature cross-departmental conversations and delivered a comprehensive, structured, and well-managed project that effectively supported both people and organisational objectives.
